Sustainability
Enduringly reusable
Clay beads can be cleaned and reused, even if you decide to repot your plant. Unlike soil, they don’t break down over time.
Cleaner for the home
They’re naturally free from pests, mold, and allergens.
Environmentally safer
By avoiding soil, we reduce the risk of introducing foreign pathogens and invasive species into local environments.
Less plastic, less waste
We deliberately avoid single-use plastic, opting for recyclable paper, biodegradable cushioning, and sturdy cardboard where possible.
Simple Ongoing Care
Take a moment for quick observation
Observe your plant’s leaves, color, and posture. Lift the vessel to check roots; they should be pale and scentless.
Fill with water once the vessel is dry
If water evaporates quickly, add an extra sip to decrease time between waterings. Begin with weekly check-ins. As your plant acclimates, move to a biweekly or monthly care routine. In the summer growing season, adjust for more water.
Top off with nourishment
Plants flourish with a balance of minerals and healthy probiotics. We recommend adding our carefully formulated nutrient essence to each watering.
Do a Seasonal Reset
Once per season, give your plant a refreshing rinse, clearing any accumulated minerals or residue from its leaves and roots. This spa day readies it for the months ahead.
Common Questions Answered
Can I grow these plants without plant care experience?
Absolutely. These plants are ideal for beginners. We’ve carefully curated a selection of the easiest plants to care for, grown in a soilless system that makes maintenance even simpler (learn more here). Plus, each plant comes with a detailed care guide to help you every step of the way.
How do I know when my plant needs more watering?
Water when the vessel is dry to the touch. The frequency of drying will vary depending on your environment and the changing seasons, so we recommend checking more often until you find a steady rhythm. If you’re needing to water more frequently, simply add a little extra water to the vessel at your next check-in.
What happens when the plant needs to be repotted?
Repotting is only necessary when the plant outgrows its current vessel. If that happens, gently remove the plant, cutting any roots that have become bound, and repeat the potting process with a larger Bylon vessel.
How are the plants transported?
We take great care in ensuring your plant’s journey from our greenhouse to your home is smooth. Our custom packaging keeps your plants snug and safe during transit. In colder months, we offer additional protective covering for a small fee to provide extra warmth and care.
Can I use your vessels with plants I already own?
Yes, you’re welcome to use our vessels with your existing plants.
Will the clay beads need to be replaced?
The clay beads are designed to last indefinitely. If you wish to reuse them, simply rinse with water. If they’ve been used with a plant that has experienced root rot or illness, sanitize by boiling or soaking them in hot water before using them again.
